What makes me different?
Chess
Chess can be a fun and exciting game to learn, especially for developing minds. Learning chess encourages students to develop their minds and critical thinking skills while participating in a game that is also fun and enjoyable. The benefits of learning chess can be seen later in life as students have learned other valuable life skills such as patience, the importance of hard work, increased proficiency in math and problem-solving, delayed gratification, how to cope with loss, respect for others, and many more!
About Me
My name is Coach Logan and I have been a chess coach since 2012. I have degrees in Statistics and Public Policy from Purdue and Mathematics Teaching from the University of Southern Indiana. I currently teach 5 chess clubs in Evansville and have taught after school clubs and school chess curriculum which I designed myself since 2012. I have developed an incredible passion for sharing my knowledge of chess with young people. Having taught over 1500 children, ages 5 through 17, my chess club is truly one of a kind. My goal is to teach chess knowledge and strategy to Elementary children through chess clubs at local schools and libraries. Through my clubs, students will have opportunities to grow and develop as chess players.
My Chess Experience
With over 25 years of playing experience, I have had notable chess tournament results including 1st place victories in the Indianapolis Open, King's Island Open, & the U.S. Amateur West, and top 5 finishes in the Chicago Open and North American Open. Growing up in Arizona, I was consistently listed in the top 100 players in my age group in the U.S. In 8th grade, I became the State Blitz Chess Champion. My chess accomplishments include playing Grand Master Dmitry Gurevich and Grand Master Maurice Ashley to draws.
